Jorge Martin Acevedo is the General Counsel for the Moses/Weitzman Health System (MWHS) and is responsible for the direction and management of the legal, compliance and privacy functions. Martin also serves as Corporate Secretary of Community Health Center, Inc., a Federally Qualified Health Center and one of MWHS’ four affiliates.
Martin began his legal career as a bilingual legal support specialist for Legal Aid services counseling migrant farm workers throughout rural Maine. After graduating from the University of Connecticut School of Law, Martin practiced for a number of years at two prominent Connecticut law firms, one of which specialized in medical malpractice defense. Prior to joining MWHS as its chief legal officer, Martin served as corporate counsel for a leading network of skilled nursing and long term care centers and as general counsel for the state’s largest private provider of homecare services for the elderly in the Connecticut Medical Assistance Program.
Before earning his Juris Doctor degree in the United States, Martin earned two law degrees in his native Costa Rica, where he is also admitted to the Bar.
